The Rams were busy in the transfer window this summer, making a raft of acquisitions.

Paul Warne was happy with Derby County’s transfer window, but he is relieved it has ended following a difficult summer.

Derby’s head coach made 11 acquisitions this summer, including Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, Kenzo Goudmijn, Kayden Jackson, Jerry Yates, Ben Osborn, Nat Phillips, Marcus Harness, and David Ozoh.

The only position Derby were unable to bolster as deadline day approached was another centre forward, but this was not due to a lack of effort, with some players commanding exorbitant fees while others were content to stay with their parent clubs.

Warne does not have to think about transfers until January as he attempts to build on the club’s strong start to life in the Championship, having won two of their first four games.

When asked for his thoughts on the transfer window, Derby’s head coach answered, “Pretty funky,” “I’m pleased it’s finished, as are my kidneys and liver. I can say this for almost any team in the window: unless you have the most money, a lot of good things happen late.

“If you told me two weeks ago that I would have Nat Phillips and Marcus Harness, I would have said no way. You can be well-planned and smart, but the finest and most financially sound decisions are often made later.

“I think we did the best we could. I thought we needed a goalkeeper, which was a huge deal for us. We needed a few nines, and I like Kayden coming in from wide. I’ve pushed him out a little bit.

“We could have done with another nine, but our midfield is excellent. Ebou Adams appears to be a much better fit. David Ozoh was an excellent acquisition, as was Kenzo Goudmijn. We have Liam Thompson, Tawanda Chirewa, and Ben Osborn, and there is healthy competitiveness throughout the roster.

“With our shopping list, we found the greatest players available to us. I want to thank everyone at the club for it.”
