Kane Wilson is fit and ready for Derby County’s trip to Sheffield United this weekend, while Liam Thompson, David Ozoh, and Tom Barkhuizen are all out.
Wilson sustained a hamstring injury in the win against Middlesbrough last month, but has trained this week and is now vying for a spot in the squad.
Derby centerback Jake Rooney is also making strong progress in his recovery from a knee injury sustained in pre-season. But Thompson and Barkhuizen are both absent, with the former not set to return until after the international break.
“Thommo will be out, and I believe he will not return before the international break. We’ve got a bit of a gap in the middle of the park, obviously, and Tom Barkhuizen has a grade one injury,” said Paul Warne.
“It’s in an extremely uncomfortable spot, so it may be 10 days, two weeks, or worse. Kane Wilson is OK; he’s trained. Joe Ward has trained. Corey Blackett-Taylor has trained. Jake Rooney is back on the grass, which is great. It would be good to have him back in the group.”
