Paul Robinson offers rallying call ahead of Birmingham City’s do-or-die Norwich encounter

There are few better at delivering inspirational dressing room speeches than Paul Robinson, and he has urged Birmingham City to channel the spirit of 2014 in their do-or-die match against Norwich on Saturday.

Blues must beat the Canaries to avoid relegation to League One after a turbulent season under six different managers. Robinson was captain of the Blues the last time things looked this bad coming into a final day game.

That club, led by Lee Clark, avoided relegation thanks to Paul Caddis’ 93rd-minute equaliser at Bolton. They had to come back from 2-0 behind to draw 2-2 to keep their Championship status.

Robinson, who returned to Blues in March as part of interim manager Gary Rowett’s coaching team, has reminded those now donning the Blues shirt of what can be accomplished at St Andrew’s if everyone pulls together.

Robinson wrote on Instagram: “In May 2014, we had what appeared to most to be an insurmountable assignment, 2-0 down with 15 minutes to go and it felt like fate had been written on the wall… but we had other plans, and I never stopped believing that everything is possible.

“The heart of every Blues fan past and present is sewn into the fabric of the Blues shirt, which I proudly donned. If only I could wear the shirt one more time and go into combat side by side, but this time I’ll be in the dugout, motivating the guys, and there will be almost 20,000 supporters cheering us on.

“Feed off the energy from the stands, play with game management, belief and the ability to get the job done. If we could do it then, we can do it again! All together.”
