Paul Robinson makes proposal to Birmingham City after departing with Gary Rowett

After departing Birmingham City with temporary manager Gary Rowett, Paul Robinson has hinted at a possible comeback.

The 45-year-old former Blues defender returned to the club in March to work with Rowett with the goal of keeping them in the Championship. Blues were relegated to League One after outcomes went against them on the season’s last day.

Rowett and Robinson have now made way for manager Tony Mowbray, who is expected to return in time for preseason. It remains to be seen whether Mowbray, who stepped down in February due to illness, will return, as will his deputy Mark Venus.

The futures of coaches Ashley Cole and Pete Shuttleworth, who joined the club alongside Wayne Rooney, must also be decided. Robinson adds he ‘would want to be a part of the rebuild’.

Robinson wrote on his Instagram page, “I’m sorry we weren’t able to do everything we wanted for this great club, and it hurts.” It’s been a difficult year for everyone, particularly Tony, who is an excellent manager, and I hope to see him back on the Blues’ sideline soon.

“While it’s difficult to understand right now, we must trust that everything happens for a reason.” As always, I plan to think on what I could have done differently in such a short period of time.

“I do believe that this club will come back bigger and stronger, the owners have outlined their ambitions, they have a plan and it’s exciting times for everyone involved. I would love to be part of that rebuild. I want to thank you all for your unwavering support, you brought the noise every time!”
