Paul Maurice Provides Answer To Accusations Of Fishing For Bruins Penalties

Jim Montgomery became a meme for his mimicry of what Panthers players did.

Jim Montgomery, the Bruins’ head coach, went viral after impersonating Panthers players in Game 5.

Boston’s head coach believed Florida was diving and overacting in order to have his team’s players flagged for penalties and set up power plays.

Maurice did not respond to the accusation after Game 5, but he did in his news conference Thursday.

“Well, I believe the first call was the only embellishment call in the series.” “I don’t think the cross-check was a penalty,” Maurice told reporters, according to Florida Hockey Now. “But we have to be careful about that. So I understood why the ref called it; I was like, whatever, because he threw himself on the boards. That’s probably why that one washed away. I’d say I’m not accepting any calls from the pot.”

You can interpret that comment however you choose. Maurice is well-known for his dry sense of humor and unconventional approach to news conferences.

It’s likely Maurice would have returned the accusation to Boston, but the Bruins have chosen to move on from the odd officiating in the series and are preparing to win Game 6 at TD Garden this Friday.
