Paul Maurice Explains Screaming At Panthers During Loss To Bruins

The Panthers needed a wake-up call Tuesday night at Amerant Bank Arena, and their coach delivered it in spades.

The Bruins were significantly more active in Game 6 of the second-round Stanley Cup playoff series, as one would expect from a team striving to save its season. Florida’s relatively ineffective performance persisted into the second quarter, and during a TV timeout, Paul Maurice let his team know it.

The Panthers coach was on fire, screaming at the defending Eastern Conference winners and delivering a message in a very passionate manner. Following the game, Maurice was asked about the scene.

“I don’t know the exact words of the message,” Maurice told reporters, according to a TSN video. “I felt that, and I wasn’t upset at them. I knew what they were going through. I just assumed they needed some profanity in their lives. I brought some. I don’t succeed at many things in life, but (expletive) me—am I good at that? Do you see how I accomplished that?”

Florida quickly answered, scoring 11 seconds following Maurice’s outburst. Unfortunately for the Panthers, Sam Reinhart’s game-tying goal was their only one in a 2-1 loss to the Bruins.

The best-of-seven series now returns to TD Garden, where the teams will meet in Game 6. With Boston gaining momentum on the way back home, Maurice may have to dip deep into his bag of tricks once more to keep his club performing at its best on Friday night.
