The Chiefs have ended the Bills’ season in three of the past four years.

Raft night in the NFL typically has a few shocks. Players rise and fall, and teams make odd decisions with long-term consequences. But more than a few eyebrows were raised when the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills, who have been AFC rivals for several years, pulled off a draft day trade in April that sent a highly coveted prospect to Kansas City.

That prospect, Xavier Worthy, has drawn attention at Chiefs training camp — and before he has ever taken an NFL snap, the “Madden” video game series has assessed him as having 98 speed (out of 99). Worthy is on the rise, and no doubt Patrick Mahomes is privately thanking the Bills for their “gesture of goodwill.” Chiefs fans on social media are saying it aloud.

Worthy prompts disbelief

Worthy broke a new 40-yard sprint record at the draft combine before being selected by the Chiefs with the 28th overall choice. Kansas City obtained that pick in the first place in a deal with Buffalo, which agreed to move down to 33rd overall to choose another wide receiver, Keon Coleman.

While Coleman has impressed Buffalo and its star quarterback Josh Allen, it is unlikely that Bills general manager Brandon Beane intended to bolster the Chiefs. After all, Worthy has created a training camp highlight reel that has already drawn comparisons to former Chiefs standout Tyreek Hill.

Worthy’s stellar camp has prompted Chiefs supporters on social media to express fake appreciation to the Bills for their “benevolence,” with others expressing outright amazement that Mahomes can include yet another speedster among his offensive weapons. And with “friends” like those in Buffalo, Kansas City has a better chance of establishing NFL history by winning three consecutive Super Bowls.
