Pat Maroon emphasized this message to Brad Marchand and the Bruins

Pat Maroon has not fought Sam Bennett or any other Florida Panther since Bennett hurt Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand in Game 3 at TD Garden on Friday night.

But Maroon tried. He particularly challenged Bennet during Game 4 on Sunday, wagging his finger at the entire Florida lineup as if to extend an invitation.

Maroon spoke with reporters at Hanscom Field on Monday before the Black and Gold headed for Sunrise, Fla., and mentioned that he has spoken with teammates since Marchand’s injury. They also recognized his continuous efforts.

“I love my captain, I love the guys,” Maroon told reporters, according to NBC Sports Boston. “Trust me, it’s a tough business, and everyone expects me to accomplish something. Unfortunately, I’m trying, and we can’t really focus on it. It’s over and done with. We need to focus on winning a hockey game right now.”

He continued, “I am doing everything I can. So we may sit here and say, “I am not.” Maybe I am not. But I talked to my captain and the other guys in the changing room. They are aware and understand how much I care. “That is the most important thing.”

The Bruins have expressed their feelings regarding Bennett’s hit on Marchand. Boston acquired additional video footage prior of Game 4, and they feel Bennett hit Marchand in the head with a foul jab. Marchand missed Game 4, and his status remains uncertain.

Bennett and the Panthers, unsurprisingly, have different perspectives on the situation.

Maroon and the Bruins, who trail the Panthers 3-1 in the best-of-seven series, will play at Amerant Bank Arena on Tuesday. The puck drops at 7 p.m. ET, and you can watch pregame and postgame coverage on NESN+.
