“The Kings did not have the unnecessary blue-chip young player the Raptors craved in at least one of their trades — at some point Immanuel Quickley was one of them — and were not willing to give up bundles of picks and cap versatility for an almost-30 so-so shooter in Siakam who might not have wanted to go there, per league sources,” Lowe wrote in his column.

According to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, Siakam did not see the Kings as a strong long-term match. The Pacers’ All-Star forward, who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, is widely expected to re-sign.

Siakam has averaged 22.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 54 games this season for the Raptors and Pacers, shooting 53.5% from the field, 34.0% from beyond the arc, and 72.9% from the free throw line. He’s earning $37.9 million.

The Pacers are a surprise 7-8 with Siakam in the lineup. They are sixth in the Eastern Conference standings, with an overall record of 31-25.

Siakam, an NBA champion, with career averages of 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks for the Raptors and Pacers. He has been selected to two All-Star and two All-NBA teams.

Siakam also received the Raptors’ Most Improved Player of the Year award in 2018-19.

The Kings are eighth in the West, with a record of 31-23. In the first round of the 2023 playoffs, they were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors after seven games.

At this point, the Raptors are 12th in the East, having a 19-36 record. The franchise is now in rebuild mode.
