Packers rookie’s statements about his shoulder injury do not bode well for his comeback

It’s unclear whether the Packers’ cornerback will play on Monday Night Football.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander, who hasn’t played since the team’s win against the Los Angeles Rams on November 5th due to a shoulder injury, made some concerning comments about his recovery on Saturday.

“I’m the type of person who always wants to put my best foot forward,” the Packers cornerback told ESPN.com’s Rob Demovsky. “So I feel like if I can’t put my best foot forward, then it’s just tough to even be out there.”

The Packers could surely benefit from his presence. The squad is 6-6 and clinging to the NFC’s seventh and final postseason spot.

Alexander has been training all week, but only with limited success.

He missed nearly the whole 2021 season due to a shoulder ailment, although it’s unclear whether his current injury is related to that one.

Alexander has yet to be officially designated as injured by the Packers before of their Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants.

Despite his inability to play, Alexander has been vocal about the Packers’ position in the NFC playoff race.

“I’m not going to say I’m a prophet, but I called it,” Alexander remarked last week.

Alexander isn’t held back by upcoming free agency. In May 2022, he agreed to a four-year, $84 million contract deal with the Packers through the 2026 season.

In his five NFL seasons, the two-time second-team All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler has 266 tackles, 62 pass deflections, and ten interceptions.

Alexander, 28, was the Packers’ first-round (18th overall) pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
