‘Out of Line Penalties’ are Ripped by Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll in the Los Angeles Rams Loss

With costly penalties hurting their performance, the Seattle Seahawks lost ground in the NFC West as they were defeated 17–16 by the Los Angeles Rams.

The Seattle Seahawks suffered their fourth loss of the season on Sunday, losing 17–16 at SoFi Stadium to the Los Angeles Rams. The theme of the game was self-inflicted wounds.

In a visually stunning game, the Seahawks simply couldn’t get out of their own way, as they racked up 12 penalties for a staggering 130 yards against the Rams.

Pete Carroll, the head coach, was left to rue the expensive penalties that would ultimately determine their fate—losing to them at SoFi Stadium.

“We were really disappointed with the way we handled this loss,” Carroll remarked. “With the calls that were made in this game, we really hard-pressed ourselves a lot.” I don’t disagree with any of them; the penalties we received were simply excessive. We haven’t performed well in that area this season, and today it really got to us.

Even though Carroll said that Geno Smith’s injury was a tricep injury (slightly above the elbow) that affected his ability to throw the football, the loss will undoubtedly be difficult to accept.

Before making a comeback on the game’s last drive and leading his team into Rams territory as the offense covered 38 yards in just eight plays, Smith would miss two series in the fourth quarter.

Kicker Jason Myers would be set up for his second consecutive week of potentially game-winning field goals, this time from 55 yards out. Sadly, his kick missed to the right, and the Seahawks lost 6-4.

Not much time to wallow in the outcome, as the division lead is at stake when the Seahawks return to action in a few days against the San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving.
