‘Our Shot!’ Seahawks embrace late-season push

The Seattle Seahawks’ season is on life support, as the team is on a four-game losing streak under coach Pete Carroll.

With quarterback Geno Smith out with a groin injury, things are looking bleak at the worst possible time of year.

Despite their 6-7 record, the Seattle Seahawks face the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, giving them a chance to achieve a major win. The Eagles are coming off consecutive blowout defeats to the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys, so they could be available.

While the club has failed to win in the last month, Carroll sees the season’s closing stretch as an opportunity to salvage what has been a miserable year.

“We’ve got four games at the end of the schedule here that makes up this old-time fourth quarter of the season, and this is our shot,” Carroll told reporters. “This is our chance to make a difference. We had our chance this past weekend; we didn’t get it done in time to get it started, but we need to get on a roll here. Here we go against a terrific team on Monday night. We’re going to have to face it, and we’re going to have to do something about it. Let’s make the most of this year.”

As of now, the Seahawks are on the outside looking in for the playoffs and will need to string together some wins if they are to return to the postseason for the second consecutive year.

The Philadelphia Eagles (10-3) are up first at Lumen Field, followed by a road game against the Tennessee Titans (5-8), a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-6), and a road game against the Arizona Cardinals (3-10).

If the Seahawks can beat the Eagles on Monday night, the rest of the schedule opens up and Carroll’s club might go on a run. They would, however, require the Los Angeles Rams to stumble down the stretch, as Sean McVay’s club has beaten Seattle twice.

The Seahawks are in disarray, but as Carroll points out, the remaining stretch of the season provides a chance to salvage the season. What better way to keep your season alive than to play spoiler to the Eagles?

Monday’s kickoff is set for 5:15 p.m. PT.
