Orlando Pirates star Deon Hotto promises to pursue league and Champions League victories, declaring that the team is prepared to succeed under Riveiro.

Orlando Pirates utility star pledges league glory as he expresses goals.

Pirate wing-back Deon Hotto is determined to lead the team to league and Champions League success, stating that head coach Jose Riveiro is now “more at home” in his third season at the club. Hotto, a prominent character since signing from the bankrupt Bidvest Wits in 2020, has contributed significantly to the team’s success, winning five domestic cups.

Despite these victories, the Pirates have yet to win the league title since the 2011/2012 season. Hotto feels the team is ready to change that as their project under Riveiro grows to new heights.

HOTTO: “LEAGUE AND CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ARE OUR MAJOR GOALS”

According to iDiski Times, Deon Hotto stated that defending the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup is not a top priority for the team. The league and Champions League are their main goals.

He noted that the emphasis during the preseason has been on competing for these major trophies. “The talk for us [in pre-season] has been about [challenging for] the league and Champions League, so that’s what we want to go for because we know how to win those other domestic cups.”

A KEY ASSET FOR PIRATES

Hotto’s versatility on the pitch, which includes positions as a left-winger, right-winger, left-back, and even a false nine, has cemented his place on the club. With 21 goals and 30 assists in 166 games, his passion is clear. He is expected to play an important role in the Orlando Pirates’ quest for league and continental dominance.

Hotto complimented Coach Jose Riveiro on his increasing comfort and understanding with the team’s chemistry. “Yeah most definitely [we’re strong enough to compete with Sundowns], it’s a project also for the coach,” replied Hotto. “He is currently in his third season, learning the team’s traditions and formations. You can tell he’s more relaxed and at ease.”

Hotto praised the team’s overall dedication to helping Riveiro and the technical personnel. “He knows what to do in the forthcoming season. And we, the players, are there to support him and the technical staff,” he stated. “Pressure will always be there. And the pressure we put on ourselves this season is to be on top of the table from start to finish.”

Orlando Pirates will kick off their new season with an MTN 8 Cup match against SuperSport United on Saturday, August 3. Fans and players alike are excited to see if the Orlando Pirates can reclaim league gold this season. Just as utility player Deon Hotto wishes for his club.
