Orlando Pirates have made their first signing for 2024/25 season

According to local reports, the Orlando Pirates are close to finalizing their first signing for the 2024/25 season.

The Soweto giants are going through a slight roster overhaul, having already discharged six players at the end of the previous season.

These include Souaibou Marou, Fortune Makaringe, Thabang Monare, Kermit Erasmus, Richard Ofori, and Siyabonga Mpontshane.

While some of the aforementioned are still looking for new homes, Thabang Monare has signed with Sekhukhune, and Fortune Makaringe has apparently agreed to terms with Cape Town City.

The Sea Robbers are currently bringing on replacements as they prepare a team for Jose Riveiro ahead of the campaign, which will confront them with a demanding schedule.

According to iDiski Times, Pirates’ offer for Petro de Luanda winger Gilberto has been approved by the Angolan club.

According to the report, Pirates paid $600,000 (R10.9 million) for the 23-year-old’s services.

The player’s buyout clause looks to be $750 000 (R13.6 million), however the clubs reached an agreement for a lower amount.

Ezimnyama Ngenkani beat over Raja Casablanca, Sivasspor, CR Belouizdad, AS FAR, MKE Ankaragücü, and Club Dynamo Makhachkala to sign the player. However, Pirates and Gilberto have yet to reach an agreement on personal terms.

Gilberto, a talented Angolan winger, was initially offered to Mamelodi Sundowns, who reportedly turned him down despite impressing against them in the African Football League.

He joined Petro in 2022 and went on to record six goals and four assists. Meanwhile, he has scored twice in seven caps for the Angolan national team.
