Oregon signs Houston DL from transfer portal

Oregon’s terrific week got much better on Friday night when the Ducks signed Houston DL Ja’Maree Caldwell off the transfer market.

The Oregon Ducks have had an outstanding week. Dan Lanning remains their head coach; the Ducks got exceptional wide receiver transfer Evan Stewart and have now added another outstanding player via the transfer portal. Ja’Maree Caldwell, a defensive lineman with the Houston Cougars, joined the Ducks on Friday night.

Caldwell announced his desire to relocate to Oregon on social media. He announced the news on his X account. “COMMITTED,” he said on Facebook. A graphic modification of the former Houston Cougar in a Ducks uniform was also included in the post.

Caldwell attended Junior College before moving to Houston. The former Cougar had a difficult journey to Eugene, but he made the most of his final two seasons. He has 38 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and a forced fumble as a Cougar. He’ll join a strong defensive line led by Lanning, an experienced defensive coach. He might have a strong season as a Duck with a slew of solid defenders around him.

Oregon is riding a wave of momentum. It probably helps their argument that their arch-rival is having the worst week… ever? Washington lost the National Championship Game to Michigan, head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama, and a growing number of their players have declared for the NFL or have already entered the portal. Yeesh. If you ask any Oregon fans, they’re probably fine with how this week has gone.
