On Monday, Yankees’ manager was ejected for the dumbest reason possible

Aaron Boone, the manager of the New York Yankees, will be off on Monday.

Hunter Wendelstedt, the home plate umpire for the Yankees’ day game against the Oakland Athletics, dismissed Boone after the first batter. The only problem? Boone did not accomplish anything.

After the first batter of the game, Wendelstedt urged Boone not to say anything else. So he complied.

However, a supporter behind the Yankees’ dugout had some comments for Wendelstedt, and without verifying who said them, Wendelstedt dismissed Boone from the game.

Boone was naturally unhappy. Here’s a video of the ejection from Dillard Barnhart on X, which includes a really hot microphone of Boone ranting at Wendelstedt.

The fact that media cameras were on Boone during the event makes it much better. Fans at home can witness Boone not say anything before Wendelstedt kicks him out of the game.

Boone approaches Wendelstedt to explain that he did not say anything, to which Wendelstedt says, “I don’t care.”

Boone then inquires, “What do you mean you don’t care?” “I didn’t say anything,” he said, pointing to a fan behind the dugout who was to blame for whatever Wendelstedt disliked.

Then he had some choice words for Wendelstedt, which you can hear on the hot mic. But his key point is, “I did not say a word.”

Boone is no stranger to ejections. Last season, he led the American League with seven ejections and tied Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell for the most in Major League Baseball.

In 2022, Boone was once again the leader in ejections, with nine. In 2021, Boone got six ejections, matching Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin for the most in the American League. Jayce Tingler of the San Diego Padres topped Major League Baseball with seven.

While Boone has had his fair share of ejections, this one is clearly unfair. The home plate umpire made a mistake and moved hastily by throwing him out after hearing something on that side of the field.

Regardless, the Yankees will be without their manager for the remainder of Monday’s game. They’ll seek to continue their winning ways, as they presently lead the American League East (15-7).
