The Sooners aren’t dealing with any major injury issues as training camp opened in Norman this past week.

Oklahoma started training camp with a relatively clean bill of health.

Last month during SEC Media Days, OU coach Brent Venables discussed a handful of players that returned to work during summer workouts.

With only three practices completed this week, it appears that there aren’t many new injuries to watch out for.

“We’re really pretty good,” Venables remarked on Saturday at his first media appearance since camp began.

Linebacker Dasan McCullough is now on the injured list, but Venables isn’t concerned about him missing a long time.

“We’re holding him right now,” Venables added. “We’re trying to get him to heal up. He has a small toe, but he’ll be fine in a week or so.”

Emmett Jones’ wide receiver room concluded spring missing two players as Jalil Farooq recovered from a foot injury and Andrel Anthony recovered from a ruptured ACL that terminated his 2023 season prematurely.

“Jalil has been out there. “We haven’t placed any restrictions on him,” Venables stated.

Farooq is now scheduled to return for the opener against Temple on August 30, according to Venables.

Anthony is also back on the turf.

“He’s been running, and he looks good,” Venables explained. “I don’t think he’s at full pace, but he has done one-on-ones. He has done a lot. We’ll keep moving him along as well.”

Venables praised offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett’s work during the summer and early in camp.

The interior offensive lineman missed spring workouts due to a lower leg injury, but he might be in the mix as Bill Bedenbaugh assembles a new-look offensive line.

Venables also stated that Jovantae Barnes, who suffered a foot injury in 2023, is healthy and “looks like his old self” after the first three practices.
