Ohio State’s Ryan Day shares secret to college football transfer portal

Coaches throughout the country are still figuring out how to best manage the new era of college football.

It’s not quite a science, and the optimal strategy is open to interpretation.

Still, each coach has a unique approach to the gateway. Ryan Day, the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, is no different.

The Buckeyes have lost 26 players since last season. Six of those players moved during the spring transfer window.

Day said on the “Morning Juice” podcast that it could be due to his openness with the athletes.

“I think that’s what you said, the transparency,” Day responded. “It begins with recruiting and continues throughout. So, even at spring practice, you have to speak with these guys about where they stand and be upfront so there are no surprises.”

That transparent strategy appeared to succeed, as Ohio State not only lost few players, but also added seven strong players, giving them the top-ranked transfer class in terms of average player rating, according to 247Sports.
