Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields talks about his future with the Bears

Justin Fields does not want to leave the Chicago Bears. Even if he does not follow the team on social media, that does not mean he wants to play elsewhere. The former Ohio State quarterback appeared on the St.

Brown Bros podcast on Wednesday to discuss his future with the organization heading into the 2024 season. When asked what he wants, Fields replied that if he had the power, he’d stay in Chicago for Year 4. “I enjoy the city. “The city is lit,” Fields explained.

“The fans there are fantastic. People, too. But this is a business. I have no control over the situation, so whatever occurs, happens. But I feel like the most important thing with everything going on right now is that i simply want this to be over. Just let me know if I’m being traded. Please let me know if I will be staying.

Chicago has two first-round picks. After surrendering the No. 1 pick to Carolina last offseason, the Bears are back at first overall after finishing last in the NFC. Related stuff.

The Bears could trade the pick again, perhaps netting a king’s ransom in draft capital, or they could keep it and take a quarterback. Early indications are that if Chicago does nothing, it will draft USC quarterback and former Heisman winner Caleb Williams.

Chicago also has the No. 9 pick, having finished 7-10 behind Fields. “It’s a unique spot in the draft to have the first overall pick and the ninth overall pick,” new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron said. “Just from an organization in general, you know, it won’t happen.”

Everything is on the table right now. Williams, the consensus top prospect who led the Trojans to an 11-win season under Lincoln Riley in 2022, might potentially decide not to play for Chicago, like Eli Manning and John Elway did.

Williams, a resident of the Washington region, might end up with the Washington Commanders in either a trade-up or as a result of Chicago’s pick.

Kliff Kingsbury, who previously worked with Williams as the Trojans’ offensive coordinator in 2023, was just hired by new head coach Dan Quinn.

In two seasons under Riley, Williams threw 72 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions, completing 67.5 percent of his passes and averaging 314.2 yards per contest.

He rushed for 21 touchdowns. Ryan Poles, the Bears’ general manager, praised Fields’ improvement down the stretch and said he would evaluate all possibilities.

Fields, who led Ohio State to the national championship in 2020, was a holdover from the previous regime when Poles was hired from Kansas City. That doesn’t mean Poles aren’t interested in keeping Fields.

He gambled on him in consecutive offseasons, despite winning fewer than 25% of his games. Fields have made moderate gains, particularly in completion percentage and passer rating.

Despite his progress, Fields continues to be a poor passer. “Justin got better,” Poles remarked after the season. “I believe he can lead this team. But, at the same time, there is a unique situation in which I, and our staff, must look at everything, which is exactly what we will do.”

If Chicago goes to the draft, it’s safe to assume Fields will be moved. Fields, a native of Georgia, was asked if he’d be interested in playing for the Atlanta Falcons, who have gone 21-30 in the previous three seasons with three quarterbacks.

“Atlanta would be tough,” Fields added. “The only disadvantage of returning home is that people call me constantly asking for tickets to the game. They’veWe have a lot of good players. They probably need one more receiver. But they definitely have some people over there, and their defense is good.”

Fields would also learn from new coordinator Zac Robinson, who rejuvenated Matthew Stafford’s career after back surgery this offseason.
