Ohio State player appears to control transfer portal reports

An Ohio State football player was expected to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Monday. He appeared to refute that rumor on social media.

College football now features a transfer portal. The Ohio State football program did a fantastic job of navigating the summer, signing several key players. Of course, when this happens, other players tend to leave for the portal, believing they are being replaced.

One player was recently believed to be transferring when the gateway opens on Monday. That player is Lincoln Kienholz, the quarterback. Kienholz was a four-star recruit in the class of 2023. He was a freshman last year and didn’t play much.

Kienholz’s only major action came in the Cotton Bowl, after Devin Brown suffered an injury. He didn’t play particularly well while in there, though. Now there are three new quarterbacks in the room, and each appears to be ahead of him on the depth chart.

Kienholz appeared to quell suspicions that he was considering departing for Iowa. He resorted to social media with a straightforward statement to refute the myths.

That brief tweet seemed to undermine any reports of his departure. If I’m being honest, it could be preferable for him to transfer. The Buckeyes have several talented quarterbacks. After Will Howard leaves in 2024, they will still have Julian Sayin, Air Noland, and incoming freshman Tavien St. Clair on the roster. Devin Brown might be too.

That is a rather full room for the Ohio State football squad. There’s no way it can continue like this throughout the following season. I am not sure how the room is resolved, but we may find out on Monday when the portal opens.

Kienholz seems committed to the Buckeyes for now. Things can still change between now and Monday.
