Ohio State officially signs top recruit

Smith opted with the Buckeyes over Florida State and Miami (Fla.).

Just hours after declaring his continued loyalty to Ohio State, Jeremiah Smith has become an official Buckeye.

The top overall prospect in the 2024 class and five-star receiver sent Columbus a letter of intent late on Wednesday night. Smith was therefore formally admitted into the Buckeyes’ 2024 class, which 247Sports rates fourth nationally.

Although Smith had initially committed to Ohio State in December of last year, Florida State and Miami (Fla.) were also fighting for his services as his recruitment was coming down to the wire. Despite reiterating his dedication to the Buckeyes at a press conference on Wednesday at 12 p.m. ET, there were rumors that the Hollywood, Florida, Chaminade-Madonna product was thinking about making a late switch because he didn’t submit his letter of intent until late on Wednesday night. Ohio State verified these rumors on social media.

Smith made his decision to remain at Ohio State and pick the Buckeyes over the Hurricanes during Ryan Day’s yearly Signing Day press conference. The Ohio State head coach practically fell on his knees when he learned that the top recruit in the country was staying with his team.

“I’m sorry, what was the question again?” Day said after remaining almost speechless for a full minute.
