Ohio State Offensive Lineman Reveals ‘Hated’ Diet Needed To Meet Mandatory Weight Requirement

During a podcast appearance before to the Cotton Bowl, Ohio State offensive tackle Carson Hinzman was a little too honest. As a result, it has subsequently been removed from YouTube and Amazon.

The ‘B&B Podcast’ episode, on the other hand, can be found on Listen Notes. There are several interesting tidbits, such as an explanation of how the Buckeyes use Name, Image, and Likeness during the recruitment process.

Hinzman also discussed his diet. He despises how much he is compelled to eat in a day.

According to the 6-foot-4, 300-pound center, Ohio State requires athletes to weigh in every day. They are led by Mickey Marotti, the head strength coach and formally recognized as the ‘Director of Football Sport Performance.’

To attain the goal, each member on the team must consume a certain number of calories. Hinzman claims that he has to consume approximately 6,000 calories each day just to maintain his current weight.

His eating habits are heavily influenced by fear. Hinzman stated that he was about 20 pounds underweight prior to the Notre Dame game and tried everything he could to avoid Marotti’s fury.

I had to chug so many Gatorades just to try and get back up […]

I was so afraid of what he was going to say if I hopped on the scale at that weight.

— Carson Hinzman

A full breakdown of Hinzman’s daily eating plan is ridiculous, even for an athlete of his size. Especially given that he is still a collegiate football player and not a professional.

  • 8:00am — Before practice
    • Three pieces of toast with banana
  • 8:30am
    • Two cups of scrambled eggs
    • Four slices of bacon
    • Three pieces of toast
    • One cup of fruit
  • 1:00pm — Post practice
    • Protein shake
  • 1:30pm
    • Two pieces of chicken
    • Two cups of mac & cheese
    • One cup of mashed potatoes
    • One cup of coleslaw
  • 3:30pm
    • Buffalo Wild Wings:
      • Wings and fries
  • 6:30pm
    • Chick-Fil-A:
      • Two orders of grilled nuggets
      • Mac & cheese
  • 8:00pm —
    • “snack”

That is what Hinzman called a “low day” at about 5,100 calories. He often has to eat three dinners.

When asked whether he enjoys his eating habits, Hinzman said that he does not.

No. I hate eating so much. It’s awful.

I never thought I’d say “I hate having to eat food” […] but yeah, it’s tough.

— Carson Hinzman

It’s not uncommon for a 300-pound offensive lineman to have that many meals in a single day. Even at the university level. That doesn’t make Hinzman’s daily eating regimen any less bizarre, especially because his strength coach’s terror drives him to keep chowing!
