Nottingham Forest’s proposed transfer for Santiago Gimenez encountered a stumbling block on Monday night when the 23-year-old raised reservations about a move to City Ground.

Gimenez wants to play in the Premier League but is apprehensive about committing to Forest and wants to explore his options further.

As the transfer market closes this week, a few clubs are showing an interest in the Mexican international.

After Forest agreed to a £29 million agreement, Gimenez was scheduled to leave from Rotterdam airport on Monday night until talks were halted.

Chris Wood has started both games this season for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest, a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and a 1-0 win over Southampton.

Since Santo’s arrival at the City Ground, the New Zealander and Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi have shared duty for No 9, with former Watford star Emmanuel Dennis the other renowned centre forward in the manager’s squad.

Meanwhile, the City Ground club has proposed a £20 million fee to Brentford for forward Yoane Wissa, who was also desired by Wolves.

The Bees want Wissa to sign a new contract as Ivan Toney is scheduled to leave for Saudi Arabia at the end of this week.

With Toney missing from Brentford’s matchday squads against Crystal Palace and Liverpool, Wissa has started the opening two games of the season for Thomas Frank, who is also without new No. 0 signing Igor Thiago due to injury.

Finally, Forest are considering signing West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

Guido Rodríguez, the Irons’ defensive midfielder, has partnered with Lucas Paqueta and Tomas Soucek in the engine room, reducing the former England international’s playing time.
