Nottingham Forest may be close to signing Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina, but their summer transfer business is far from over.
Milenkovic, a La Viola defender, is set to undergo a medical at Forest and will go from Serie A to the Premier League in a deal worth roughly £12 million.
Last night, it was reported that Forest want to recruit Alexis Saelemaekers from AC Milan, indicating that Nuno Espirito Santo believes there are still voids in the squad.
Forest’s attack might use some improvement, and a new striker would be a good start.
Chris Wood scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, but he is already 32, while Taiwo Awoniyi was injured for much of the season.
As a result, it’s unsurprising that the latest player connected with a move to Forest is a striker.
Nottingham Forest reignite interest in Chuba Akpom
This is quite surprising, but it appears that Forest are interested in signing the Ajax striker this summer.
Forest were connected with the Nigeria striker in January, but the club waited too late on transfer deadline day to complete a move.
According to All Nigeria Soccer, the Reds are seeking to sign the player who came through Arsenal’s junior system before the season begins.
Akpom joined Ajax from Middlesbrough last summer, but he often struggled to get started in the Eredivisie.
The 28-year-old scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, which is quite good considering he only started nine games.
At Boro, he scored 34 goals in 82 games and was praised by Don Goodman, who dubbed him’remarkable’ during one of his purple spells.
Akpom would have to prove himself to Forest fan base
Akpom’s arrival may be viewed as lackluster in light of the extremely fantastic business that appears to be taking place this summer.
Forest is 28 years old and in his peak, thus any transfer he makes will not have much resale value.
Furthermore, he has scored goals abroad and in the Championship, but he has never had the opportunity to score frequently in the Premier League.
Akpom was loaned out to Forest as a youth, although he failed to score in seven games.
Clearly, he’s come a long way since then, but if he does return to Trentside, he’ll have to prove he has what it takes to score consistently in the Premier League.
