James Rodriguez lit up the Copa America this summer, but he is once again without a club after departing Sao Paulo.

Nottingham Forest is one of numerous clubs that have been approached about signing former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich player James Rodriguez.

The Colombian was a revelation at this summer’s COPA America, leading his country to the final before being barely defeated by Argentina. According to TBR Football, numerous clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, have been contacted and presented with the opportunity to sign the superstar, who wants to prove himself in England’s top flight once more.

Rodriguez, 33, spent last season in Sao Paulo after playing for Olympiacos in Greece; Forest has a tie to the Athens-based team through owner Evangelos Marinakis, who owns both clubs. During his stint in Greece, he averaged slightly more than one goal per game – five goals and six assists in 23 Super League outings.

He also has Premier League experience, having played for Everton in 2020/21, where he scored six goals and provided four assists in 23 appearances under Carlo Ancelotti, who also managed him at Real Madrid.

The offensive midfielder broke into the forefront at the 2014 World Cup, most notably scoring a magnificent volley against Uruguay, which helped him secure a £63 million move to Real Madrid during Ancelotti’s first term at the club. Rodriguez was unable to fulfill his full potential in the Spanish capital due to injuries, so he transferred to Bayern Munich, where he continued to generate excellent numbers but was constantly plagued by ailments.

The Real Madrid manager summed up Rodriguez in 2020, saying, “He’s a great, talented player.” He never misses passes, loses possession of the ball, or wastes shots on goal. He doesn’t play sophisticated football; he views football as a simple sport.”

The 33-year-old is currently available for free transfer, but his salaries would be hefty, and the club’s position on such a trade is unknown. However, if he were to arrive at the City Ground, he would serve as an inspiration to fellow offensive midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who would definitely benefit from working alongside one of the best midfielders of the past decade.
