Taiwo Awoniyi’s position at Nottingham Forest is under jeopardy, as the English Premier League team is in serious talks with Feyenoord about signing Mexican attacker Santiago Gimenez, according to Soccernet.ng.

The Tricky Trees are hoping to improve their team this summer after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

They bought Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin two seasons ago, hoping he would be a bright spot in their assault. However, the deal did not go as planned.

The 27-year-old striker has struggled with injuries since joining the club. Awoniyi has 17 goals and four assists in just 54 games. However, in the last two years, he has missed 35 games for both his club and nation.

Due to his frequent injuries, Chris Wood has replaced him in the Tricky Trees lineup. However, things could get worse for Awoniyi. Nottingham Forest are currently in talks with Feyenoord about signing Gimenez.

The Mexican striker has been a regular goal scorer for Feyenoord over the last two seasons, totaling 53 goals and 13 assists in 89 appearances.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Awoniyi Nottingham Forest has previously submitted a €25 million bid, which Feyenoord rejected.

Transfermarkt now values the Mexican at €40 million, thus Feyenoord may seek up to €50 million before selling.

If the deal goes through, Gimenez will most likely become the first-choice striker, while Awoniyi will fall further down the pecking order.
