Nottingham Forest are ramping up their efforts to sign a striker before the Premier League season begins.

It’s been a quiet summer for strikers at the City Ground, but things appear to be heating up.

Nuno Espirito Santo has two striker options at his disposal: Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Eddie Howe hailed Wood when he signed for Forest for £15 million in January 2023, and he scored 15 goals across all competitions last season.

However, he turns 33 this season and will not be scoring at that level for much longer.

Awoniyi has been an excellent addition since joining from Union Berlin at £18 million shortly after Forest won promotion.

He’s scored 17 goals in 53 games across all competitions, but his injury history is cause for concern.

With those considerations in mind, the Reds have moved their attention to Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, and no updates have been provided.

Tottenham were also interested in the 23-year-old this summer, but Ange Postecoglou appears to have more pressing priorities.

A Dutch journalist has now investigated the apparent link between Forest and Gimenez, and he has some interesting news to share.

Rene Tovar has revealed to Record Mexico: “We were able to contact people close to Gimenez and the answer (about Nottingham Forest’s interest) was the following: yes, it is true that Nottingham Forest want Santi, that’s right, there is a possibility that they may even have a formal, official offer from the English team, however, until last night, there had been no official proposal.”

Striker is required at Forest this summer

Last year, Forest had Divock Origi as a backup, but only Awoniyi and Wood can currently lead the line for the squad.

With that in mind, it seems like an ideal time to bring in a new striker, and Gimenez appears to suit the description of what Forest is looking for.

He scored 26 goals last season, and despite playing in the Eredivisie, this demonstrates a guy who knows where the back of the net is.

Gimenez is only 23, so even if Forest paid a high price for him, he would still have a lot of potential and resale value in the future.

Forest may have to play the long game with this one, but the fact that the club is interested in Gimenez is certainly good news.
