Steven Reid has announced his retirement from the coaching staff at Nottingham Forest.

Reid is said to have left the club during the preseason following three years at the City Ground.

This was the 43-year-old’s second stint as first-team coach. The former Republic of Ireland international joined the club in the summer of 2021 and served briefly as interim manager after Chris Houghton left in September 2021.

He was a respected figure in the dugout during Steve Cooper’s tenure as manager, and Forest gained promotion via the Championship play-offs at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Reid left the club in October 2022 to study to become a mental health counsellor, but he returned at the start of last season to work alongside Cooper.

Reid, who formerly played for Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers, West Bromwich Albion, and Burnley, has not been in charge of a Premier League team since the new season began.

“So my time at Nottingham Forest has come to an end. I’d like to wish everybody at the club continued success in the future. Reid wrote on Instagram: “Some amazing memories shared over three seasons that will live with me forever.”

Forest acknowledged his resignation in their own statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: “Wishing you all the best for the next chapter, and thank you for everything.”
