Nottingham Forest attacker set to join EPL rivals as he says…

TEAMtalk can exclusively report that Newcastle United are interested in signing Nottingham Forest attacker Anthony Elanga to replace the outgoing Miguel Almiron.

Almiron has been with Newcastle since January 2019, but the club has opted to let the Paraguayan depart this summer while he is still available at a reasonable price. Almiron is a target for an undisclosed Saudi Pro League club, which is likely to pay Newcastle more for the right winger than European clubs.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe wants to bring in an inverted winger to play on the right, and Elanga fits the criteria perfectly, having played that position for Nottingham Forest last season.

Elanga shined in his debut season at the City Ground, scoring five goals and providing nine assists in 36 Premier League games.

Elanga has more than justified his original £15 million price tag and played a major role in Forest’s survival in the Premier League, but his impressive performances have piqued the interest of top-flight rivals.

The Sweden international piqued Newcastle’s interest during the teams’ two meetings last season, assisted two goals in Forest’s shock victory at St James’ Park on Boxing Day and scoring one at the City Ground.

Newcastle and Forest have lately completed many rounds of talks, with Elliot Anderson relocating to the East Midlands and Odysseas Vlachodimos heading in the opposite direction. Sources have verified to TEAMtalk that Newcastle has inquired about Elanga’s probable availability during the current transfer window.

The two teams are still in talks about Elanga, with Newcastle willing to increase their interest in the wide player if Almiron’s situation is addressed. It is worth noting that Newcastle are fighting to maintain Anthony Gordon, who is also being pursued by Liverpool.

Newcastle transfers: Exciting Anthony Elanga interest

Elanga would be an excellent signing for Newcastle, as he has demonstrated since leaving Manchester United that he can cause opposition full-backs serious issues week in and week out.

The 17-cap international is versatile and can play both left wing and centre forward for Newcastle if needed, in addition to his preferred position on the right flank.

Furthermore, Elanga is still only 22 years old, and if Newcastle can entice him away from Forest, they will do everything they can to help him realize his full potential.
