Nick Saban confesses to tampering with NFL draft’s first round while at Alabama

Now that Nick Saban is no longer the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, he appears to have no problem airing some of his dirty laundry.

Saban spoke on ABC’s coverage of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, admitting to interfering with Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell while still in control at Tuscaloosa.

“He was our number one guy in the portal last year, attempting to exit the portal. “And he didn’t even enter the portal,” Saban explained.

So he basically messed with Mitchell, who was still a Toledo athlete, without allowing the great cornerback to join the transfer portal. As you may guess, that is a big no-no in the NCAA.

Fans were taken aback when Saban said as much on live television.

Mitchell, a 6-foot, 195-pound native of Florida, was a Rockets superstar. He was named first-team All-MAC twice and performed admirably in the Senior Bowl against superior opposition.

On Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles selected him with the 22nd overall choice, making him the first cornerback taken in the draft.

Saban may be retired, but that does not mean he has stopped working.

The coaching icon was recently photographed speaking with recruits at Alabama’s annual Crimson and White spring game. We’re sure new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer wouldn’t mind the assistance.
