Nick Chubb Named As Possible Salary Cap Cut For The Browns

The Cleveland Browns were one of the most entertaining teams to root for during the 2023 NFL season, as they defied the odds to reach the postseason.

Cleveland experienced a number of roster injuries, including a catastrophic one to Nick Chubb.

Chubb suffered a severe knee injury and was almost immediately sidelined for the rest of the season.

The Browns were able to keep their ground game going, but it was noticeably different than when Chubb was in charge of the backfield.

Chubb is expected to recuperate and return to the field, but his future with the team could be jeopardized.

The Athletic reports that Chubb is a probable cap casualty.

“The Browns want to keep Chubb and believe he can be a reliable fourth-quarter closer in the second half of next season. However, Chubb is recovering from two surgeries on his ailing knee, and he is expected to incur a salary cap charge of just under $16 million in 2024, the final year of his deal and his age-28 season,” The Athletic said.

It would be difficult to part ways with Chubb, who is perhaps the finest pure runner in the game, but that is the reality that both teams confront.

Running backs are typically the easiest positions to replace in the league, but there is no replacing someone as great as Chubb.

Cleveland does not have to make a choice right away, and they will most likely wait to see how Chubb recovers.

Hopefully, the Browns’ great running back makes a full recovery and remains an important member of the team.
