NFL bans Eagles security chief…

The NFL has barred Eagles security chief Dom DiSandro from being on the sideline for the rest of the regular season after he was ejected from a game earlier this month for a scuffle with 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw, according to two people familiar with the league’s decision on Saturday.

DiSandro is still permitted to travel with the club to Seattle for the Monday night game and to conduct all other work tasks, but he is not permitted to stand on the sidelines, according to one of the sources. Both people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the league hasn’t made a decision, said DiSandro will be able to play in the playoffs.

DiSandro yanked Greenlaw away from Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith after a reception in the third quarter of Philadelphia’s 42-19 loss to San Francisco on December 3. Greenlaw sprang up and reached over two officials to put his hand in DiSandro’s face after being penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play.

The league ejected Greenlaw and penalized him $10,927 for the unnecessary roughness penalty. DiSandro was also asked to leave, and he headed to the locker room to a standing ovation from Eagles fans.

The NFL issued a message to teams last week repeating a guideline that prohibits non-player staff from making physical contact, mocking, or insulting rival players or officials. The message further stated that only game officials or coaches should attempt to break up fights. According to the league, any breaches could result in fines or suspensions.

DiSandro met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last week and was restricted from the sidelines of the Eagles’ game against the Cowboys on Sunday night. From the tunnel, he observed the game.

DiSandro joined the Eagles in 1999 and is a senior adviser to general manager Howie Roseman. DiSandro, 45, is a big person who prefers to keep a low profile but is frequently in front of media cameras. He is in charge of all safety and security matters for players, coaches, and executives. He also oversees security at the team’s training facility, is in charge of security measures linked to team travel and logistics, and educates players on the NFL’s personal conduct rules.
