New Chiefs wide receiver is catching punts at practice

The Kansas City Chiefs may have won Super Bowl LVIII, but there were some obvious gaps that needed to be remedied this offseason.

The Chiefs’ most prominent area of need was at wide receiver, where they rotated through various possibilities, including Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kadarius Toney, to provide Patrick Mahomes with weapons, albeit both veterans underwhelmed.

Without Rashee Rice’s breakout and the defense, Kansas City might not be enjoying their second Super Bowl win in as many years this offseason.

Understanding that their wide receiver room needed to be revamped, the Chiefs went all out in the 2024 NFL Draft, trading up with the Buffalo Bills to grab No. 28 and take Texas speedster Xavier Worthy.

Worthy smashed the record for a 40-yard dash at the NFL Draft Combine with a 4.21 and could instantly contribute for Kansas City in 2024.

During offseason workouts, Worthy was even seen catching punts via PJ Green of FOX.

The rookie wideout’s blistering speed and ability to make people miss in the open field make him an ideal punt returner.

Worthy has the potential to be one of the league’s finest punt returners, resulting in more scoring opportunities for the Chiefs.

Although head coach Andy Reid has not yet disclosed his plans for Worthy, he could experiment with punt returns to see what he can achieve.

Worthy’s speed is his most valuable asset, thus getting the ball in his hands as much as possible should be a focus.
