Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from this month’s US Open, stating that he will not “be able to give my 100% at this time”.

Nadal, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the Paris Olympic singles and reached the doubles quarterfinals with partner Carlos Alcaraz, has only appeared in the US Open once since 2019.

The 38-year-old Spaniard declined to compete in New York, citing an unspecified injury or health concerns.

In a post on X, he stated that the US Open, which begins on August 19, is “a place where I have amazing memories”.

“I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe,” said Nadal, who has 22 Grand Slam victories, including four at the US Open.

He stated that he would continue to play in the Laver Cup in Berlin in September.

Nadal had stated that he expects to retire later this year, but before the French Open, he indicated he was not “100%” sure if that would be his final appearance at Roland Garros.

He withdrew from the Australian Open in January due to an injury and did not compete at Wimbledon to focus on the Olympics.
