According to reports, the Minnesota Twins are considering moving catcher Christian Vazquez as part of their payroll-cutting strategy before the 2024 campaign.
According to Robert Murray of FanSided, the Minnesota Twins are apparently looking to deal catcher Christian Vazquez. Speaking on Foul Territory on Wednesday, Murray revealed the report and said that Minnesota wants to reduce salary by trading players.
“The Twins are considering cutting salaries. They’ve made a concerted effort to trade for specific players, Murray claimed. “Sources who have spoken with the Twins say that Christian Vazquez was one of them.”
So which teams could be interested in signing Christian Vazquez, who has a deal that expires in 2025?
Murray added, “I don’t necessarily know what the likelihood of a trade is, but the Padres ended up showing a lot of interest in him when he was a free agency last year. “There are several other clubs searching for a catcher, including the Marlins right now. He could definitely make sense as a trade candidate, in my opinion.
Vazquez, a 33-year-old catcher, is dependable. Although he isn’t very productive from the bat, he makes a good backup and marginal starter.
Twins’ offseason
The Twins have just finished their 2023 AL Central-winning campaign. Minnesota is currently figuring out how to reduce salary while bringing in talent.
In the AL Central, competition isn’t very tough. Actually, this past season, it was the weakest division in MLB. The Cleveland Guardians may make a comeback, and the Detroit Tigers are gradually assembling a winning team, but the Twins ought to be the division favorite in 2024.
Still, as the offseason wears on, Minnesota will be a fascinating team to watch.
