Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy receives top-10 draft hype following a great combine.

JJ McCarthy is moving up the NFL Draft rankings following the combine.

Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye are the most talked-about quarterbacks entering the 2024 NFL Draft. However, teams have not forgotten about J.J. McCarthy.

McCarthy’s stock has risen steadily since the NFL Combine. According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, some in the league believe the quarterback might be drafted in the top ten.

“I still think teams are higher on Michigan QB JJ McCarthy than a lot of people on the outside think, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him picked in the top 10,” Graziano wrote in a blog post. “He came to Indy as one of the prospects with the most to gain, and while teams of course have questions, he has intriguing traits.”

McCarthy does not have the eye-popping statistics that the top quarterback prospects do. During his three years at Michigan, he tossed 6,226 yards, 49 touchdowns, and eleven interceptions. McCarthy had his best statistical season in his final year, reaching a new career high in passing yards (2,991), tying his highest touchdown pass total, and recording his fewest interceptions (four).

Beyond his stats, McCarthy led Michigan to an undefeated season and a national championship. McCarthy’s elegance and leadership qualities have likely piqued the eye of organizations, given his college accomplishments.

J.J. McCarthy will not compete with Caleb Williams to be the first quarterback picked in the NFL Draft. However, the former Wolverine has established a name for himself. As teams throughout the league seek for their next quarterback, McCarthy is becoming a more viable option.
