Michigan Wolverines Update: J.J. McCarthy’s draft stock is increasing, and more…

Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy is being touted as a top-5 choice, and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

We haven’t discussed J.J. McCarthy’s NFL draft status in a few days, but his stock is surging. Last week, he was predicted as a top-three choice for the New England Patriots.

Mel Kiper Jr., a long-time ESPN NFL draft expert, also stated on a podcast that McCarthy is in the running to replace Drake Maye as the No. 3 quarterback. Kiper ranks Jayden Daniels as the second-best quarterback, but the former Michigan quarterback is making a solid case for a top-three choice.

I believe the Chicago Bears should consider him first overall. Caleb Williams is a solid prospect, but someone in this NFL draft class will be a disappointment, and despite Ohio State fans’ expectations, I don’t believe Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy will be that player.

In other Michigan football news, the Wolverines are still looking for a running backs coach, and we outlined five potential candidates over the weekend to replace Mike Hart.

Michigan Wolverines take 2nd in Big Ten wrestling tournament

The Michigan Wolverines had a good weekend on the mat at the Big Ten tournament, finishing second to Penn State in the Big Ten wrestling title.

Michigan wrestling had four wrestlers go to the finals, but all four ended second place. Wllll Lewan (157), Dylan Ragusin (133), Austin Gomez (149), and Shane Griffith (174) all came in second. Michigan did, however, score 123.5 points, the second-highest total ever for the Wolverines in the Big Ten tournament. U-M qualified nine wrestlers for nationals.

After reaching the semifinals of the Big Ten women’s basketball tournament, the Michigan Wolverines are still projected to receive one of the final four NCAA tournament byes. This places them as the seventh-to-last team out. Michigan, which finished 20-13, should be safe and avoid the first four games.
