Michigan wide receiver announces NFL Draft

The Wolverines’ leading receiver is on his way to the next level.

The National Champion Michigan Wolverines have lost another significant offensive player for next season with the announcement of wide receiver Roman Wilson’s decision to enter the NFL Draft.

The senior wideout accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl, which was released one day after Michigan’s National Championship victory over the Washington Huskies.

Wilson was the primary target for quarterback J.J. McCarthy in 2023, leading the club with 48 receptions, 789 yards, and 12 touchdowns. He was selected the Wolverines’ Offensive Player of the Week six times during his last year at Michigan.

Wilson’s return was not ruled out because he has one extra season of eligibility owing to the COVID season in 2020. Wilson’s draft stock will very certainly never be higher, therefore he made the proper move.

He appeared in 46 games for Michigan over four seasons, totaling 1,707 yards and 20 touchdowns. He’ll leave Ann Arbor as a national champion, three-time Big Ten champion, and second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2023.

The senior wideout made some spectacular plays throughout his Michigan career, but none bigger than this leaping catch late in the Rose Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide:

Wilson joins quarterback J.J. McCarthy, running back Blake Corum, defensive tackle Kris Jenkins, edge Jaylen Harrell, edge Braiden McGregor, linebackers Junior Colson, linebacker Michael Barrett, cornerback Josh Wallace, and offensive linemen Zainter, Trevor Keegan, Drake Nugent, and LaDarius Henderson in declaring for the draft.
