Michigan suspended freshly appointed coach Greg Scruggs after a drunk driving arrest

Scruggs, 33, was arrested for driving while intoxicated around 3 a.m. Saturday, according to Ann Arbor police.

He was hired by Moore, who took over as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers two months ago when Jim Harbaugh left.

Scruggs, a former NFL defensive end, coached Wisconsin’s defensive line last year.

In 2022, he was an assistant defensive line coach with the New York Jets after working for the Cincinnati Bearcats the previous two seasons.

He played defensive line for Louisville from 2008 to 2011, during which time Moore began his coaching career as a graduate assistant.

Scruggs, who is from Cincinnati, was picked by Seattle in the seventh round of 2012.

He appeared in 18 games over four seasons with the Seahawks and Chicago Bears.
