Michigan suffers another huge blow as one departs

Sherrone Moore’s task as the new Michigan football head coach has just been much more tough with the resignation of another valuable assistant, Steve Clinkscale.

According to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Steve Clinkscale is leaving Michigan football for the Chargers, further disrupting the team’s coaching staff.

This is a turnaround from Clink’s earlier announcement that he would stay. Jim Harbaugh was after Clink, but money seemed to be an impediment. However, it appears that that hurdle has been crossed, and Clink, like Ben Herbert, is departing, as are Mike Elston, Jay Harbaugh, and Jesse Minter.

We still don’t know what happened to Mike Hart, and the entire defensive coaching staff is being replaced. Wink Martindale was a solid hire. However, he will have a difficult time recruiting, and the Wolverines have recently lost two of their top recruiters on that side of the ball.

Sherrone Moore has his job cut out for him.

In addition, key secondary and defensive line players lost their position coaches. Clink led Michigan football to three consecutive top-20 pass defenses, and frankly, the writing was on the wall when he was passed over for the defensive coordinator position.

Hopefully, that was the correct move. If Clink was promoted to DC, there would still be continuity, but without the system, there will be none on defense. I trust Sherrone Moore and believe he is the ideal individual for the job.

But he needs to strike a home run with the defensive line and secondary coaches because if the new assistants don’t gel with Michigan football stars and players transfer, the 2024 season could swiftly become a rebuilding year.
