Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s pro day provokes fan reactions

The NFL draft is just over one month away, and hopefuls are doing everything they can to move up the selection board.

For the most part, we know where most players will go, at least on Day One of the draft. Prospects, such as Michigan quarterback and probable top-10 draft pick J.J. McCarthy, have plenty of time to prove themselves worthy of a day-one decision.

McCarthy has surged up the draft boards in recent months. Throughout his college career, he has been a part of a winning program, contributing to the Wolverines’ success. The Michigan Pro Day was his opportunity to demonstrate scouts and NFL teams that he is the genuine deal, and he did not disappoint. Check out this video of his incredible deep ball, which astounded everyone in attendance.

It is just one clip; however, it was a really remarkable toss. Nonetheless, NFL “experts” on Twitter were unimpressed and expressed their thoughts openly.

I must admit that I am not a huge admirer of J.J. McCarthy; but, his resume and success are undeniable. Yes, he was a part of a great program managed by a great head coach turned Charger head coach, Jim Harbaugh—but he did what it took to lead his team to a 27-1 record as a starter. After his Pro Day, McCarthy told reporters, including Austin Meek of The Athletic, that he wanted to demonstrate his ability to make NFL-style throws.

“I just wanted to showcase the questions they had about out-breakers to the left and putting some air on the deep posts, stuff like that,” McCarthy said, via Austin Meek of TheAthletic.com. “I felt like I did that today. I’m pretty confident with the showing I put out there.”

If he can join a team with a strong offense and weapons, such as the Minnesota Vikings, it might change everything for the team and his career. McCarthy is projected to be the fourth quarterback picked in the 2018 draft, following USC’s Caleb Willaims, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels. It is a loaded quarterback class, but as we all know, not all quarterbacks will live up to expectations for various reasons.

During his senior season, the 21-year-old completed 72.3% of his throws, totaling 240 passes, 2991 passing yards, 9.0 yards per attempt, and 22 touchdowns against only four interceptions. McCarthy is ready to prove that he is greater than he was in Ann Arbor.
