Michigan quarterback eases any injury concerns ahead of the Rose Bowl against Alabama

JJ McCarthy appears to be primed for the Rose Bowl.

On Monday, Michigan football will face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl for a position in the National Championship. One theme leading up to this game has been quarterback JJ McCarthy’s health, since he did not appear to be at full strength during the last month of the season.

However, in an interview with reporters on Friday, the Wolverines quarterback allayed fears about a potential injury.

“A hundred percent,” he said. “I’d say 110 percent.”

That is very welcome news. JJ McCarthy didn’t play very well against Penn State, Maryland, or Ohio State, despite Michigan winning all three games. Normally, the quarterback is mobile and a threat with his legs, but that wasn’t the case this time. McCarthy never revealed what kind of injury he was suffering from.

For the unbeaten Wolverines, the junior completed 74.2% of his throws for 2,630 yards and 19 touchdowns versus four interceptions. McCarthy was also asked Friday if he believes he is ready for the NFL, and while he hinted at perhaps returning to Ann Arbor, he also stated that making the step to the next level right now is very much feasible.
