Michigan hosts San Diego for a three-game set this weekend, as they defeat Toledo on a walk-off

This weekend, the Wolverines will host San Diego in Ann Arbor for a three-game series.

The Michigan Wolverines’ first home weekend series of the season begins later today, when the San Diego Toreros visit Ann Arbor. The Wolverines enter the weekend 2-0 at home, following a stunning comeback victory over Toledo on Tuesday.

The Wolverines trailed 6-0 after giving up six runs in the first two innings, but scored three in the bottom of the second and two more in the bottom of the third to close the gap to 6-5.

Kyle Dernedde then tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when he singled in Cole Coruso, who had reached base after being hit by a pitch.

The game proceeded to extra innings because neither side scored in the last three regulation innings. A scoreless 10th and 11th set up the Wolverines’ bottom of the 12th inning, when Casuro singled down the left field line to score Mack Timbrook and walk off the Rockets.

The win improved Michigan’s season record to 6-11 and 2-0 at home. The Wolverines will aim to continue their winning streak at home on Friday when they face the San Diego Toreros in the first of a three-game series.

The Toreros are 8-7 on the season and have split their previous four games, going 1-2 against No. 17 Dallas Baptist last weekend and 9-1 against the Wolverines two weeks ago at Dodger Stadium in the Dodgertown Classic finale.

In the first match, the Toreros led 2-1 entering the fifth inning when they blasted the game open with six runs. Dylan Vigue pitched well in that game, but after striking out the first batter, the next eight got on base.

The Wolverines’ offense struggled, recording only four hits and scoring one run in the bottom of the third on a Bradley Navarro groundout.

The Toreros’ offensive is led by Jack Gurevitch and Jack Costello. They lead the team with.379 and.362 batting averages. Costello also leads the club in home runs (four) and RBIs (23).

Josh Randall has a 1.36 ERA and a team-high 25 strikeouts. The team’s other two key starts are Ryan Kyser and Logan Reddemann, who have ERAs of 7.02 and 7.16, respectively.
