McKenna: A few minor issues, nothing major

Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed that the Blues will be without Leif Davis for Saturday’s FA Cup encounter at AFC Wimbledon.

Left-back Davis has a calf ailment that has kept him out of the last two games, while striker George Hirst is out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury that will require surgery early next week.

“We’ve had a couple of minor issues since Monday,” McKenna replied when asked whether he had any new injuries. “We don’t expect Leif to be fully recovered just yet.”

“Of course, George, but we have a couple of other players who need to be evaluated after Monday’s game.”

“Nothing major, but there might be one or two where Saturday comes a little bit too quick or there’s an extra need for a rest period to prepare for the games we have coming up.”

Lee Evans has been out since October after undergoing surgery, but McKenna says the Welshman is recovering well but won’t be returning for a while.

“Lee’s progressing well, I think he’s recently had a specialist appointment and they were very happy with the progression,” he told reporters.

“He still has a long way to go; he’s not out on the grass yet, and he’s not doing any pitch work, even on an individual level.”

“There will still be a significant period of time, but he is progressing as planned.” Hopefully, he’ll be back in shape this season, but it won’t be this month or anytime soon.”
