“Massive coup”: Birmingham City Welcome Prolific Defender As…

Birmingham City fan pundit is thrilled about the club’s chances of signing Rangers defender Connor Goldson this summer.

According to The Scottish Sun, Chris Davies is interested in signing the 31-year-old as part of the Blues’ transfer plans.

The Midlands club hopes to construct a team capable of competing for promotion back to the Championship at the first try.

Goldson has recently fallen out of favour at Ibrox and could be open to a move to St. Andrew’s, despite having two years left on his present contract.

The centre-back appeared in 30 of the team’s 38 league games last season before a knee injury terminated his chances of returning to Philippe Clement’s side (all statistics from Fbref).

Goldson signing would be welcome at Birmingham

Birmingham fan pundit Mike Gibbs believes Goldson would be an excellent addition to Davies’ squad this summer.

However, he is skeptical that a deal can be reached just yet, given the amount of high-profile signings the club has already been associated with this summer.

“I think Connor Goldson would be a massive coup,” Gibbs stated to Football League World.

“He’s played 48 games for the Rangers and is about 30 years old, so he has a good few years ahead of him at this level.

“I believe that bringing him in alongside [Mike] Eerdhuijzen will provide us with a really, really strong center defensive mix.

“Who knows if that is realistic? There have been many rumors of a League One club moving to Birmingham, which you would think would be out of reach, but we haven’t seen many of those come true yet.

“Until the contract link is dry, I believe the jury will be brutally honest.

“That being said, if you look at the two goalkeepers we brought in, both are at least Championship quality, so we’re doing exactly what Garry Cook said, building a team capable of competing in the Championship within League One.”

Connor Goldson’s importance to Rangers

Goldson has been a significant member of Rangers’ first-team squad for the past seven years.

He was a fixture in the squad when Steven Gerrard led the team to the Scottish league title in 2021.

The defender has also competed in European football, including the Champions League and Europa League.

However, his time with Rangers could come to an end shortly, with Birmingham interested in a possible transfer.

Goldson signing could be promising

Goldson’s age is a little problem, as at 31, he will begin to experience a deterioration in his physical performance.

With that in mind, Birmingham should avoid overspending in any potential deal with Rangers.

If they can keep prices low, his arrival might be beneficial to Davies’ team next season.

The experienced centre-back will bring a wealth of vital experience to a League One team, which should aid the Blues significantly in their quest for automatic promotion.
