Lions Receive a Somber News on LB After Wrist Injury

The Detroit Lions may be dealing with yet another major injury to their linebacking group following the loss of two of their best defensive backs.

Due to a hand/wrist injury, Alex Anzalone had to depart the team’s Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers. Head coach Dan Campbell stated on November 27 that Anzalone might be out for some time.

“It’s feasible that Alex might be a little bit. According to SI.com, Campbell told reporters that Kerby (Joseph) should be fine. “Until Jonah (Jackson) tells me he’s playing, I’m assuming Jonah isn’t playing. At that point, I’ll know.” Apart from that, we’ll see.

The Lions, who have already suffered a number of ailments, may incur significant costs as a result of this injury. They found it difficult to contain the Packers in the November 23 loss.

Big Setback for Lions

The loss of Anzalone might be a major blow to the Lions defense, which has been among the worst in the league in recent weeks, as reported by Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

“During his three years in Detroit, Anzalone has emerged as a defensive leader and has improved with each passing season,” Meinke wrote. “He recorded a career-high 125 tackles in the previous season, which helped him secure a lucrative $18.3 million, three-year contract during the offseason.”

Meinke continued, saying that after switching to his natural weak-side linebacker position this season, Anzalone has performed “better than ever.” With 11 games played this season, he has 87 tackles, which had him on track to tie a career best prior to the injury. With three sacks and nine quarterback hits so far this season, Anzalone has already surpassed his career high.

Meinke also mentioned that a few weeks prior, Anzalone had received high marks from linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard.

Sheppard remarked of Anzalone, “I’ve been telling y’all this, and I know you think it’s just because I coach him, but I’ve been seeing this, man, and the value he has in our defense.” “And this year, he has some soldiers with him who can communicate verbally and write checks as well. As a result, on certain downs, Alex is free to play and do his thing. And when that player is free to do what he does best, I’ll place him on par with any player in the league in terms of athletic ability and my ability to match him one-on-one.

When safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson tore his pectoral and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley tore his ACL early in the season, the Lions had already lost two important veterans and significant offseason acquisitions. Both were put on reserve for injuries.

Lions Face Key Test

This week will be a crucial test for Detroit as the Lions, who are now tied with the San Francisco 49ers and two games behind the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC, await a formidable challenge from the Packers. The Lions have a 62% chance of winning when they play the Saints in New Orleans, according to heavy estimates fueled by the fourth quarter.

With their current lead in the NFC North, the Lions are on track to host their first postseason game in almost thirty years.
