With few major roster voids, the Detroit Lions appear to be taking a focused approach this offseason. General manager Brad Holmes will have plenty of cap space to work with, thanks to the increase in the salary cap for each team.

With the league-wide salary cap hike, no team’s offseason plans should change drastically. Speaking on “Costa and Jansen with Heather” on 97.1 The Ticket Monday morning, Holmes intimated that the Lions’ plan is unaffected by the salary ceiling increase.

Holmes also rejected the concept that the Lions are “one player away,” citing the importance of depth in getting through a season.

Holmes struck all of the predicted close to the vest notes on Monday morning. But he did shift slightly away from that for a brief moment….

Holmes noted that he has “always felt more comfortable” meeting needs in free agency. The Lions have two or three potentially significant players (cornerback, edge rusher, guard), and if a fit is found, perhaps a “bigger fish” will be added.

Holmes did not appear to completely rule out such a move on Monday morning.
