In an interview with reporters on November 27, Campbell discussed Hooker’s previously unclear future and predicted that he would be activated at some time during the season. An ACL tear ended Hooker’s final season at Tennessee, and Campbell had previously expressed skepticism about him participating at all in his rookie campaign.
Jared Goff, the starting quarterback, is now having a difficult time, so the Lions may add another signal caller to the mix.
Lions Expect to Activate Hendon Hooker
On Monday, Campbell was questioned regarding Hooker’s short-term plans. Hooker is eligible to return off the reserve/non-football injury list. Campbell made hints that Hooker would not only be turned on, but that it would happen this week.
Yes, I believe that we will. According to USA Today’s Lions Wire, Campbell stated, “Brad (Holmes) and I talked about it last week.” “I simply don’t want to tell you now that we won’t be doing it and that I lied to you.” That’s it. Well, I believe we will, but time will tell.
According to Campbell, having Hooker on the reserve list severely disadvantages the squad. He would be permitted to work one-on-one with coaches, which is presently not allowed, in addition to attending meetings.
Yes, we are not allowed to coach him, so that explains why, Campbell replied. We are unable to allow him to participate in meetings without first putting him through some basic tasks. All you have to do is sort of stand there. That’s why it’s helpful to be able to work with him one-on-one and have him do a task. It’s large because of this.
Jared Goff Hits Rough Patch
Although Hooker is unlikely to challenge for significant playing time behind both Goff and seasoned backup Teddy Bridgewater, Hooker’s activation might provide the organization a better look at their third-round choice and aid in the preparation of their quarterback room for the following campaign.
After throwing three interceptions in a victory against the Chicago Bears, Goff had a tough stretch. In the team’s Thanksgiving Day loss to the Green Bay Packers, he fumbled three times, a career-high. Goff claimed it was a result of both unlucky circumstances and subpar play after the game.

“I usually analyze each one separately to see how I could have done it better. Sometimes I can figure it out, and other times I can’t,” Goff remarked. “But in general, yes, I have a responsibility to look after the football, and I have to do it well.”
The setback dropped the Lions to 8-3, but they will have an opportunity to get back when they travel to play the New Orleans Saints on December 3.According to high Q4 estimates, the Lions have a 61% chance of winning.
