Leicester City injury update ahead of Sunderland clash

The news on winger Yunus Akgun, who hobbled off during Leicester City’s 3-1 victory over Swansea, is provided by Enzo Maresca, who provides an update on the health of his team.

Yunus Akgun will not play in Leicester City’s Championship match against Sunderland as he is undergoing scanning to find out the severity of his injury.

The Turkish international winger, who had only entered the game as a substitute just after the hour, appeared to be having thigh trouble as he hobbled out in extra time during the team’s 3-1 victory over Swansea on Saturday. Although at the time manager Enzo Maresca did not think it was serious, he has since sent him off to be examined.

Maresca stated during his Monday afternoon press conference, “He’s doing a scan now.” Thus, we will have some news shortly. Not that tomorrow isn’t complicated. I hope it’s nothing major, so maybe a few days, but not tomorrow, I don’t think so.

As a result, Maresca has just three options for first-team wingers in City: Abdul Fatawu, Stephy Mavididi, and Marc Albrighton. But Kasey McAteer’s recovery from his hamstring injury is virtually complete.

The winger and £7.5 million summer acquisition Tom Cannon pulled up during the victory over Blackburn a few weeks ago, but by the end of this week, he might be back in first-team training.

“Kasey and Tom are really close,” stated Maresca. “Hopefully they can start with us at the end of this week or next week.”
