Leicester City in the transfer battle with West Ham and Everton

This season’s Saturday afternoon in the Championship was excellent for Leicester City as Enzo Maresca’s team defeated Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Loftus Road.

Leicester is now five points ahead of the competition after the win, continuing their excellent play in the second division this year.

Leicester has amazingly gained 39 points from just 14 games, winning 13 of them in the league and only losing one.

Maybe we shouldn’t be shocked, though, considering the caliber of some of the players they were able to recruit and retain at the team.

Leicester City in Everton and West Ham transfer battle

It seems that the club is considering the future in addition to their summer operations and recent acquisitions who could have an immediate impact.

In fact, Sunday morning sources indicate that Leicester City is eager to capture 16-year-old James Overy of Perth Glory.

According to Alan Nixon on Patreon, the Foxes are up against Everton and West Ham, two Premier League teams that are also eager to get the young Australian.

According to Nixon, the 16-year-old has pleased all three clubs during a trip and is about to make his A-League debut for Perth Glory.

In fact, Overy reportedly participated in an Everton youth match last week and even made an appearance for the Hammers during a trial after being noticed by them while defending Jarrod Bowen on their preseason tour of Australia.

Leicester is reportedly ‘desperate’ to sign him as well.

But according to reports, Everton is currently leading the race for his signature, which might be detrimental to both the Foxes and the Hammers.

It’s interesting to note that, despite being Australian, the 16-year-old has a British passport because of his family’s origins, which would facilitate any migration to the UK.

Who is James Overy?

James Overy is a young Australian player that plays in the Australian A-League for Perth Glory, as was previously noted.

He has not yet made his senior debut for the team, despite all of the interest mentioned above.

Despite being only 15 years old, he did play in a friendly this summer against West Ham.

Following the game, David Moyes made a suggestion that he was impressed by what he saw and that he had received information on one of the team’s young players.

It appears quite likely that Moyes was referring to Overy, since he went on to have a trial with the Hammers.

“I said I had a tip about one boy I should keep an eye on,” Moyes said to the media at the time, according to A-Leagues Facebook.

“I will undoubtedly withhold his name from you. However, as you may recall, we did [observe him], and we were rather pleased with what we witnessed.

“It was a young player which you would expect, so we’ll keep an eye on it and I’ll maybe pass his name on when we get back to see if we can maybe get a chance to go look at him back home in England.”

The next several weeks and months will be interesting to watch how this transfer story plays out.
